QUESTION FROM Laura
What is the typical life of a sump pump? should one expect to have to replace a sump pump on some type of regular basis?
ANSWER FROM POLICY-Wizard™
Dear Laura:
Although there is no way to guarantee how long any particular sump pump will last. Some may fail within the first three years while another may last twenty years. But an average life would typically be 10 to 15 years. The main reason for such a wide variance is the amount of time the pump is actually running during its life, which depends on the particular service that it is placed in.
Servicing the pump every few years will extend the life of the pump. Parts such as the o-rings and the switch wear out, and for a typical sump pump, the average switch life is four to seven years.
Hope this is helpful.
